artist statement

andy writes in his curators statement, “…AND THAT IS WHY THESE ARTISTS ARE HERE….THEY PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY SOUL PEEPING…. AND…..REFLECTION…”

i say, EXACTLY.

these paintings are my soul made visible. an opportunity for self peeping.

and self reflection.

my soul, your soul, our souls

sometimes so clear and precise, other times more moody

cycling between dark and light and light and dark

again and again

from Sally Mann’s “Hold Still”

this about her neighbor and friend, the artist Cy Twombly…

“…his photographs, with their soft, dreamlike quality. They edge close to the
deadly minefields of sentiment, that most disputed artistic territory…”

#244 from the transformation series, in progress

Working with a diamond shape for this transformation piece. If a square is stability, then for me, a diamond is the shape  of transformation.
Thinking about how these paintings came about during a time of transformation in the country as it has to do with gender.
